Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra picked Lucknow Super Giants’ positives in IPL 2026 campaign despite their disappointing show. LSG ended the league phase as the wooden-spooners but there were a few positives for the franchises.
One of them, according to Chopra, was Mukul Choudhary, who can be upgraded to a top-quality finisher. Choudhary scored a smashing knock of 54 runs off just 27 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders with the help of two fours and seven maximums, the most by a batter batting at number seven or below in IPL history.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel, “They have found a talent in Mukul Choudhary. I will count it as a positive. You can work on him. You can make him into a finisher of top quality. You don’t get top-quality finishers, and definitely not Indian, and they have two – Abdul Samad and Mukul Choudhary. If they upgrade them, the road ahead can be good,” he said.
The former Delhi cricketer picked LSG’s fast bowling line-up as a positive for the team. The likes of Mayank Yadav, Prince Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Akash Singh and Mohsin Khan impressed with their performances.
“Their pace battery – Prince Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Akash Singh, and Arjun Tendulkar also performed well in the one match he played. Mayank Yadav started coming in good form towards the end. Mohammad Shami has been absolutely outstanding. If you leave aside Avesh Khan, their fast bowling department did extremely well. So that’s a massive positive, which they can build on,” he observed.
The former KKR batter said the emergence of Josh Inglis in the latter half of the league phase was a positive for Rishabh Pant’s team. The Australian scored 266 runs in five matches.
“I think Josh Inglis’ inclusion, because there were a lot of discussions about that, as to why he was picked and what they would do with him, but Josh Inglis has been incredible. He is batting extremely well,” he said.
Chopra reckons Inglis can form a long-term opening partnership with compatriot Mitchell Marsh.
“Although he is not a natural opener, he has settled down comfortably there. So Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis can be an incredible combination. They have Matthew Breetzke and Aiden Markram as well. So it might not work out in the middle order, but Josh Inglis has been a big, big positive,” Chopra observed.
LSG will aim to bounce back strongly in the next season.
