Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has picked Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to be three Indian batters who can be all-format players. Gill is leading India in ODIs and Test but he is currently not part of the T20I team.
However, Gill had a dream run in IPL 2026 while leading Gujarat Titans, scoring 732 runs in 16 games. Furthermore, he scored a fine century in the one-off Test against Afghanistan and then backed it with scores of 84 and 154 runs in the first two ODI against the visitors.
On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal has certainly shown the skills to be a three-format player for India. However, currently, he is only a regular member of the team in the red-ball version. In the absence of Virat Kohli, Jaiswal scored 110 runs off 86 balls in the third ODI against Afghanistan.
Aakash Chopra said in a video on his X account, “Will anyone play all three formats after five years? That is a big question. The ones who come to my mind are Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. Maybe at some stage, Gill would crack the T20 code. He has done it already, but it’s about when he gets a chance to play. Yashasvi Jaiswal has the ability to do it.”
Chopra is confident that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will also become an all-format player for India. Sooryavanshi recently scored 776 runs in IPL 2026 for Rajasthan Royals and thus earned his maiden India T20I call-up.
“If I take an absolute long shot, because Veeru has done it, and his initials are V.S. Vaibhav Suryavanshi as India’s Test, T20I, and ODI cricketer after five years, it seems impossible, but someone told me that there is possible hidden in the word impossible.”
India will next take on Ireland in two T20Is.
