Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra believes the presence of many power-hitters will be South Africa’s strength in the T20 World Cup 2026. The Proteas have batters like Dewald Brevis, Ryan Rickelton, Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, and Marco Jansen.
Chopra noted that only Aiden Markram will play respectfully but other batters will look to play with a long handle. Currently, South Africa has taken an impregnable lead of 2-0 against the West Indies.
“This team has many players who can hit sixes. They will start from Quinton de Kock and continue till Marco Jansen after Tristan Stubbs. Everyone hits sixes. So they have quality hitters. Dewald Brevis will also come in between,” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“Markram is the one who plays slightly properly. Everyone else plays disrespectfully. They score a lot of runs. The docket I have prepared is telling me that this is a very strong team,” he added.
The renowned commentator noted South Africa has always had many all-rounders in the team and once again, they have a plethora of all-rounders in the squad.
“They always have multiple all-rounders and they have them now as well. They have Corbin Bosch, Marco Jansen, and Aiden Markram can bowl a little. Their keepers are proper batters. They have not one but two. They have Dewald Brevis and Tristan Stubbs. You have got plenty of options available,” he said.
Chopra said South Africa also has a potent seam-bowling attack in their squad for the World Cup.
“So excellent all-rounders and a very good fast bowling unit – Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Corbin Bosch, Marco Jansen. It’s a good fast bowling unit. They are a good team,” Chopra observed.
South Africa will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Canada on February 9.
