Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra reckons Varun Chakravarthy’s potential unavailability for the match against Lucknow Super Giants is a cause of concern for KKR. Chakravarthy was not included in the team’s playing XI against Punjab Kings in the last game due to a finger injury.
Chopra urged KKR to include Daksh Kamra in their playing XI, stating he is a mystery spinner. KKR have managed a solitary point in three games after two losses and one no result. Thus, Ajinkya Rahane’s team is yet to register its first win of the season.
“The big question for KKR is that Varun Chakaravarthy is not there, and that is a bit of a problem. I get it that he is not in form, but who is a spinner like him? Can you play Daksh Kamra?” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“You have selected him. He has got that mystery going. He is coming after doing well. He bowled well in your trial matches. So think about Daksh Kamra. If I were you, I would try and play him,” he added.
Chopra urged KKR to play with four frontline bowlers in their playing XI and questioned the team’s selection in the previous game against PBKS, which was abandoned due to rain.
“I didn’t understand at all what you did in the last match. You went with only three bowlers. Either Anukul Roy or Ramandeep Singh was the fourth bowler in your XI, or will you get Rovman Powell to bowl? I didn’t understand what you were doing. At least four frontline bowlers should be there in your XI,” he said.
The former KKR batter said the three-time champions should retain Rovman Powell in the team in place of Blessing Muzarabani.
“Sunil Narine is fit and available. So you will see him playing. I am still thinking you should play Rovman Powell in place of Blessing Muzarabani because that much might is not being seen in batting. Cameron Green has already started bowling, and I have heard he might bowl in this match,” Chopra observed.
KKR will take on LSG at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday.
