Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra praised Jos Buttler after Gujarat Titans registered a thrilling one-run win against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday. Buttler scored 52 runs off 27 balls with the help of three fours and five sixes and thus scored his runs at a strike rate of 192.59.
The England batter added 60 runs off 32 balls with Shubman Gill with the former doing the bulk of the scoring. GT were eventually able to post a par score of 210 runs on the board after Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar also scored 70 and 55 runs respectively.
Buttler hasn’t been in the best of forms in the recent past however this knock will do him a world of good.
“Jos Buttler’s batting, how well he batted. This was just his second half-century of the year. The first came against the Pretoria Capitals on January 7 in the SA20. Pretoria Capitals are the Capitals’ franchise only, and now he has hit it against the Delhi Capitals. This half-century was pure class, what you call sublime batting,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
The renowned commentator also praised Shubman Gill for his impressive knock after getting off to a sedate start.
“It seemed like he was toying with the bowlers. So Jos Buttler is back in form. Shubman Gill – he started very slowly, but runs came from his bat. He did the job of taking down Kuldeep Yadav. He hit four sixes off Kuldeep’s bowling. Only he could have done that. So well done, Shubman Gill,” he observed.
Meanwhile, Chopra questioned Washington Sundar’s approach after the left-hander scored at run-a-ball in the last 10-11 balls.
“Washington Sundar, I have a small regret about him. He was going like a rocket in the first 20 balls, but he scored at a run-a-ball in the last 10-11 balls. He slowed down a lot, but eventually the runs have come,” he said.
The former KKR batter said GT should have posted 235 runs on the board against GT.
“GT, this should have been 235. 235 was there for the taking. You didn’t end well. Only 49 runs came in the last five overs. So you lost a little bit of steam. So that will be a concern for you,” Chopra observed.
Gujarat Titans will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow on Sunday.
