Team James player Stephen Curry was on a roll in front of a crowd of 19,400 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio as he scored 50 points and came up with a scintillating performance. Curry scored 16 three-pointers as he took his game to another level.
The previous record was held by Paul George, who had scored nine three-pointers in the All-star game. Klay Thompson holds the record for most three-pointers in an NBA game with 14 threes which he had scored against the Chicago Bulls in 2018.
Courtesy a fine performance from Curry, Team James beat Team Durant by 163-160. In fact, LeBron James scored the match-winning basket as he himself scored 24 points, six rebounds, and eight assists.
In fact, at one stage it looked like Curry will go past Anthony Davis’ record of most points in a single All-star game. Davis had scored 52 points in 2017.
“I tried, I tried,” said Curry of flirting with the single-game scoring record, held by Los Angeles Lakers’ Davis who scored 52 points in 2017. “When I get going the energy picks up. It is pretty special being back in Ohio.
“Obviously this trophy has very special meaning. I am very humbled, very blessed and I appreciate it.”
Curry added that it was surreal to play in front of all the greats of the game.
“I was like a kid in a candy store just watching all the greats, all the legends,” said Curry of meeting his boyhood heroes. “That helped me in the third quarter because I just let loose and had fun. “You walk around talking to the best of the best, it brings out the best in you.”
James was also delighted with his team as well as his individual performance.
“I could not have dreamed of that moment, any better than the actuality that just happened,” James said.
James was playing his 18th NBA All-star game and this was his fifth consecutive win with his team.
