My game is fine: Russell Westbrook defends himself after poor show against Minnesota Timberwolves

LA Lakers talisman Russell Westbrook has been under scrutiny for his rocky form in the ongoing season. Westbrook had a tough Sunday night against Minnesota Timberwolves as he conceded nine out of 15 turnovers which the Lakers had. The 33-year old, though dropped 20 points and provided five assists in his team’s 108-103 win against Timberwolves at the Crypto.com center.

Westbrook stated that he is allowed to miss his shots and turn the ball over and it is all part of the game. In fact, this was Westbrook’s third game this season where he has had nine or more turnovers.

Thus, Westbrook has come under the scanner for his poor handling of the ball in the ongoing season. Furthermore, Westbrook leads the turnovers list in the NBA for the fifth time in his 14-year career.

“I disagree,” Westbrook said. “I disagree with the part that the game wasn’t going my way.”

However, despite having nine turnovers, he added 20 points on 7-for-16 shooting overall, hit 6 of 8 free throws, and also added 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and a steal, which were crucial to the team’s win in the end.

“My game, you know, is fine,” he said. “My game is not predicated on shots or if I turn the ball over. Like, I miss some shots, that’s part of the game. I’m allowed to miss shots. I can do that. Like any other player, I can do that. I can turn the ball over, too. I can do that. That’s all a part of the game.”

Westbrook is the solitary player in the league who has averaged a triple-double in four seasons of the NBA. The linchpin added that numbers always don’t always tell you the complete picture in the game and he is happy with his contribution.

“When you watch a basketball game and figure out what impact making the right plays, boxing out, rebounding, whatever that may be, making the right play, making the right reads, that’s all about being a basketball player,” he said.

Westbrook will look to turn the tables in the upcoming match as the LA Lakers will face Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night.
