Top seed Tanvi Sharma continued her strong run of form by defeating Canada’s Rachel Chan in straight games at the Vietnam Open 2026 on Wednesday.
The Indian teenager registered a 21-16, 21-17 victory in the Round of 32 to move into the next stage of the BWF World Tour Super 100 tournament.
Tanvi entered the competition following a string of impressive performances on the international circuit. Earlier this month, she produced a spirited display at the China Masters 2026 before being eliminated by Japan’s World No. 9 Tomoka Miyazaki.
The Round of 16 contest in Shenzhen lasted 66 minutes, with Tanvi pushing her higher-ranked opponent to three games before eventually losing 17-21, 21-18, 16-21.
She had reached the last 16 of the BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament after beating Denmark’s Amalie Schulz in the opening round. Tanvi won that contest 21-16, 21-17, the same scoreline she recorded against Chan in Vietnam on Wednesday.
Her recent results follow a breakthrough title triumph last month at the Taipei Open Super 300.
Tanvi captured her maiden BWF World Tour crown by beating Vietnam’s sixth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh 21-16, 21-16 in the women’s singles final in Taipei. She needed only 36 minutes to complete the victory.
The triumph also carried historical significance, with Tanvi becoming the first Indian to win the Taipei Open women’s singles title since Saina Nehwal claimed the trophy in 2008.
Coached by Park Tae-sang, the former mentor of P.V. Sindhu, Tanvi has continued to build on the promise she showed when finishing runner-up at last year’s U.S. Open Super 300.
There were mixed results for the other Indians competing at the Vietnam Open on Wednesday.
Anmol Kharb’s campaign came to an end following a straight-games defeat against Thailand’s Sarunrak Vitidsarn. Kharb lost 14-21, 14-21.
In another match involving Indian players, Alap Mishra comfortably overcame compatriot Arya Bhivpathaki. Mishra secured a 21-8, 21-14 victory to progress in the tournament.
Tanvi, meanwhile, remains in contention as the top seed after beginning her Vietnam Open campaign with a convincing straight-games victory.
