Indian badminton sensation Tanvi Sharma captured the biggest title of her young career on Sunday, defeating Nguyen Thuy Linh in straight games to win the Taipei Open 2026 BWF Super 300 women’s singles crown.
The 17-year-old produced a composed and dominant display to overcome the World No. 21 by identical scores of 21-16, 21-16 in just 36 minutes. The victory marked Tanvi’s maiden BWF World Tour title and made her the first women’s singles champion from her country at the Taipei Open since Saina Nehwal lifted the trophy in 2008.
It was another impressive result for Tanvi against Nguyen, having also defeated the Vietnamese shuttler in the opening round of the 2025 US Open.
Tanvi executed her game plan with precision throughout the final, relying on accurate cross-court shots to move her opponent around the court. Nguyen, who began showing signs of fatigue during the second game, struggled to cope with the teenager’s consistency and court coverage.
Although Tanvi briefly lost momentum in the second game after several shots found the net, she quickly regained control. She rebuilt her lead and maintained the advantage through to the final point, ensuring there would be no late comeback.
Rather than relying solely on powerful attacks, Tanvi mixed clean cross-court dribbles with well-timed smashes, repeatedly targeting Nguyen’s front court. By placing the shuttle into the corners and forcing her opponent to cover every part of the court, she maintained control of the rallies and dictated the pace of the match.
The triumph represents a significant milestone in Tanvi’s rapidly progressing career. The Taipei Open final was her second appearance in a BWF Super 300 title match after finishing runner-up at last year’s US Open. She had also ended as runner-up at both the Odisha Masters Super 100 and the Guwahati Masters Super 100, making Sunday’s victory a breakthrough moment after a series of near misses.
With the title secured in emphatic fashion, Tanvi has added her first World Tour trophy to an already promising resume. Her commanding performance in the final and mature tactical approach against a higher-ranked opponent underline her growing reputation as one of badminton’s brightest young talents and cap off a memorable week in Taipei.
