Teenage badminton sensation Tanvi Sharma continued her impressive run on the BWF World Tour, defeating fellow Indian Shriyanshi Valishetty in a hard-fought three-game contest to reach the women’s singles quarterfinals of the Korea Masters 2026 in Asan on Thursday.
The 17-year-old prevailed 21-16, 17-21, 21-13 in an entertaining all-Indian encounter, extending the rich vein of form that saw her become the youngest-ever Taipei Open Super 300 champion just last week. The victory further underlined her growing reputation as one of India’s brightest badminton prospects ahead of this month’s BWF World Championships on home soil.
Tanvi will now face another Indian, Rakshitha Sree Ramraj, in the quarterfinals after Rakshitha defeated Japan’s Manami Suizu 22-20, 21-10 to book her place in the last eight.
The second-round clash against Shriyanshi tested Tanvi’s composure and resilience. After falling behind in the early exchanges of the opening game, she gradually found her rhythm through sharp court coverage and aggressive strokeplay. A strong finish allowed her to turn the game around and take it 21-16.
Shriyanshi responded with determination in the second game, taking control from the outset and establishing an 11-6 advantage at the mid-game interval. She continued to dictate the rallies with confident attacking play and, despite Tanvi’s efforts to reduce the deficit, held her nerve to clinch the game 21-17 and force the match into a decider.
With a place in the quarterfinals at stake, Tanvi once again demonstrated the confidence that has fuelled her recent success. She began the deciding game on the front foot, quickly opening up a lead and maintaining the momentum throughout. Her consistent pressure left Shriyanshi with little opportunity to stage a comeback as the World No. 30 comfortably wrapped up the final game 21-13.
The victory extends Tanvi’s winning streak on the World Tour and keeps her title aspirations alive in Asan. It also sets up another all-Indian contest in the quarterfinals, with Rakshitha Sree Ramraj standing between the teenage star and a place in the last four.
Having already created history with her breakthrough title in Taipei, Tanvi continues to build momentum at the perfect time as she prepares for the upcoming BWF World Championships.
