Japan Open champion P. V. Sindhu has been seeded ninth for the upcoming BWF World Championships, while the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will enter the tournament as the fifth seeds. The prestigious event will be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi from August 17 to 23.
India will have two entries in each of the five categories at the championships, with at least one seeded player or pair in four disciplines, highlighting the country’s strong representation at the tournament.
Alongside Sindhu and the Satwik-Chirag duo, former World Championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen has been seeded 14th in the men’s singles competition. In mixed doubles, the pairing of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto has received the 15th seed.
While qualification for the World Championships was determined using the BWF world rankings published on April 28, 2026, the seedings have been finalised based on the rankings released on July 28, 2026.
Defending men’s singles world champion Shi Yuqi of China heads the seeding list in his category, while South Korea’s An Se Young is the top seed in women’s singles. Reigning women’s singles world champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan has been seeded second, followed by China’s Wang Zhi Yi and Chen Yufei in third and fourth positions respectively.
The draw for the championships is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on Wednesday. However, the final seedings could still change if any of the seeded players withdraw before the draw is conducted.
In the doubles events, South Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae are expected to top the men’s doubles seedings, while China’s Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning are the top seeds in women’s doubles. China’s Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping have been named the top-seeded pair in the mixed doubles competition.
With several seeded contenders across multiple events and home support in New Delhi, India will look to make a strong impression when the BWF World Championships get underway later this month.
